Letters of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow [manuscript],1878-1879.

In a letter, 1878 September 26, H.W. Longfellow, Cambridge, writes to J.R. Osgood expressing doubts about the possible success of a "Birth Day Book" and saying he doesn't know how many volumes he will need to finish "Poems of places," but that he will limit himself in the United States section which he feels will be more interesting to Americans. In a letter, 1879 January 29, Longfellow writes to Charlotte Fisk Bates enclosing library books and a French review of "Keramos" and remarking on the weather, flowers, an upcoming visit from Mr. Greene and promising to send proofs of "Canada."
